First of all I am very happy to announce support from O'Shea Surf! Their wetsuits are incredibly warm, super flexible and perfect for windsurfing and surfing! I have been wearing just my 5mm stealth and it kept me roasting warm even in the recent winter Easterlies! Cheers O'Shea!!

So what's happened recently...not a lot over the winter really! However, by the time the winter blues had fully kicked in we headed off to Portugal for 2 weeks of surfing at the awesome Pig Dog Surf Camp.

Having recently built their new website for them and being shown image after image of perfect offshore blue waves, Sarah and I were more than eager to leave work and ice cold England behind.

As sod's law would have it, Portugal had the worst weather it has had in years the first week we were there, with rain and onshore wind and swell all week. We still surfed a couple of times a day, dodging huge close out sets and surfing the more protected reforms at the Harbour Wall.

The second week gave us a taster of how good it is there normally, with less wind and cleaner conditions! We also managed to sneak a windsurf in, although my session was cut a tad short with a classic 3-piece mast trick!

Upon arriving back we struggled through 3 days of work before getting a full days sailing in at Gwithian...see the boards post here.

The pics below are mainly from the quick Mexico's session Sunday and another Monday afternoon, plus one or two taken in about ten mins in Portugal. Unfortunately, we made a bad call in the rush from work as Mexico's was a tad too offshore really!

Hope you like the pics!

Well Autumn has fully kicked in this week!

x1

Hedging all bets me and Sarah took Wednesday off this week and after surfing Fistral Wednesday night, kipping in the van and then windsurfing Gwithian/Mexicos twice and surfing through sunset when the wind dropped it was worth it!

The waves were great, the wind was super gusty side-offshore/offshore and varying from 10-35knts making it a tad tricky in places! However, we all got some great waves and some good shots, including my leg pulling aerial crash and token broken mast swim at the end of the session!

x2

What more could you want after a great session than to see the forecast swell for the weekend reach 5.5ft @ 18seconds -> 7ft @ 16seconds...in laymans terms GOOD SWELL (for the U.K.)!

After I managed to stop Sarah running excited rings around the house (imagine a spaniel on cocaine), we packed the car (van is poorly) and headed to Will Rodger's 30th in Polzeath! One freezing, no sleep, night in a tent meant I was firing on about 1 cylinder ... perfect for the surf ahead.

Anyways, long story short Godrevy fired! Offshore, hard to paddle in to but otherwise a good session! Few big hold downs to make life more interesting as well!

Hope you like the pics! (click on first one to open slideshow)

Well there is finally some wind in Devon/Cornwall now, we just had a quick session at Bigbury. The first five minutes were fun but it quickly degraded into standard Bigbury underpowered wobbling around in poo brown water.

Waves were about head high but low tide close out central - at least it was good for a giggle. Tomorrow looks a tad more promising but not sure where we are heading yet...will hopefully have some footage if it's good.

Other news is that me and Sarah have finally finished pimping the van! We have a quick time lapse vid here that shows the conversion from builder's van to pimp surf mobile!

The bed height is adjustable so we can fit in just a few surf boards for surf weekends or at max capacity all our wave kit (2 persons quiver of boards and sails) and 3/4 surfboards aswell (or like last night slalom gear).

Also got some of our new 2013 quiver in now, more due in the next week or so, I was on the 2012 5m today but hopefully will get to try the new ones tomorrow!

Adios for now.

Tasty poo water, Forward over the poo, Maybe this angle works, New sails!, Onshore waveride

Apologies for the delay in updates!

The South West has been pretty mediocre over the last month and a bit. I only sailed once in the whole of July! It's starting to get better now though, everyone has their fingers crossed for a great Autumn.

We have had a few surf sessions recently and one 5.3m light wind session at Gwithian the other weekend. Otherwise, we have bought a new van!! I will do an update in the next few days with some van pics. We pretty much worked on it non-stop after work for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, last night we finally got a windy session in at Wonwell. Only 30 mins from Plymouth it is a great spot for jumping in strong SSW-S winds. Essentially a mini Pozo without the rocks downwind!

I tested our new K4 harness mount but after only a few runs I realised the gopro wasn't done up tight enough. After sailing all the way down wind I realised I couldn't sort it and had to sail the rest of the session without it...damn jinx again!

Here is a quick vid of a nice backloop I got with the gopro in the wrong place! A new viewing angle I am sure not many will repeat!

Well we are back from Pozo Izquierdo, Gran Canaria to a windy but cold United Kingdom!

We didn't get a great amount of waves in Pozo while we were there so we only took a few photos on the last couple of days and only for a few minutes, either way there are a couple of ok ones!

Overall the trip was great fun, all our friends that are out there at the minute are getting ready for the PWA event (if it ever gets confirmed) and in just 10 days we managed to sail 6 days, go to a waterpark and generally just enjoy a bit of a summer holiday!

A special mention must go to Eva for the closest call ever (this is entirely accidental and we know the sailor, it is just one of the dangers of sailing in 3m weather, crowded and low sun in your eyes!) and Justyna who badly broke her foot on only her second day there pre event! She broke her 2nd, 3rd and 4th bones in her foot with a twisting motion causing 3rd to shatter/splinter into her ankle. And has also dislocated the other 2 and damaged her ankle and damaged the Lisfranc complex. Overall a pretty bad injury and I am sure everyone wishes her a speedy recovery from the surgery earlier this week!

Marcillo Browne also hurt his knee during this final push forward on the last morning we were there - see the epic Pozo video here. I hope the knee injury isn't to bad and that Marcillo heals quickly!

The reason there are only a couple out is that this is 3.2m weather for the best guys in the world! Unless...you are Swifty and only have 3.7m or Marcillo who trusted Robby's judgement...haha

I hope you like the classic Pozo overpowered double chop air to catapult sequence aswell...always so enjoyable.

Well in a rather rushed decision we booked last minute flights to Pozo, Gran Canaria. Taking 4.5 days leave we have 10 days on the water courtesy of old queenies jubilee! An offer too good to miss with restricted leave.

The first day we sailed at Vargas on 4.7m with some small forward ramps but not a lot else going on. Yesterday, there were more standard conditions in Pozo, well powered on 3.7m and waist high 3 dimensional chop with lots of sailors out!

Very frustrating but today is much better. Still well powered on 3.7m and having tightened my fins (oops) my board is behaving a lot better!

For onshore conditions the K4 14 Stubbies with 8 Sharks in my 78l are so good!

Anyways here is a basic sum up of Pozo from a wave sailors perspective...

Ideal Pozo
Waves: 2-3m + 0.5m
Wind: 15-25knts 40knts +
People: Friends only Half the windsurfing population
Between the waves: Flat/smooth Chopfest!!

Having said that, it is super windy and the jumping can be great, plus it is always good to practice in these conditions as they are quite rare in the U.K.!

I actually really enjoy Pozo when the waves come... todays session was 100% better than last nights and all that has changed is that there is a wave or two now!

Right, lunch over...time to sail again...and the waves are getting better! Pics to come shortly!

Well it has been a very busy bunch of weeks since we got back from Chile! The U.K. has been absolutely rubbish, we have literally had no decent swell since we got back.

Still on an exciting note I have my new Simmer Quantum 85l board in now and it rips! Perfect board for making the most out of U.K./European conditions!

There was one sneaky afternoon surf session at Whitsands which was head high + a bit, offshore and fun. Otherwise it has been windy on and off but usually with no relation to swell and therefore it has been a bit of a freestyle month.

Still staying fit is key and I get edgy if I am out of the water for more than a couple of days so summer longboard sessions, spearfishing and SUPing are all happening and on the cards for the rest of the summer.

In case you missed it below is our Chile video and the video from Windsurf 4 Cancer! The W4CR event was incredible once again with a lot of money raised for charity and fun had by everyone! There wasn't enough wind to get our zero planing...but we decided to tackle as many sports in one day as we could!

Finally, last weekend saw Bigbury turned into 'Tarifa' with crowded beach, clear hot weather and 4m easterlies for some choppy freestyle! Hylton (Sarah's brother in law) learnt planing in the harness and waterstarts and also took some in water shots...stay tuned for jumping ones as soon as there is wind and waves!

Right time to sort Pozo accomodation...flying Saturday!

Well we are back in the U.K.! It has been mayhem since we got back, catching up with friends, catching up workwise and still getting a few cheeky sessions in!

For anyone who missed it... give the Chile article a read at http://www.boardseekermag.com/features/windsurfing-action/windsurfing-in...

This year on the 6th of May, Sarah and I will be taking a group of complete windsurf novices and getting them to planing standard in ONE day!! We are doing this for the Windsurf4Cancer charity and it is an event that is very close to our hearts. We unfortunately lost our friend Matt to Cancer while we were in Chile and would appreciate any donations as we are doing it in his honor!

Unbelievable. We went to Topocalma last Sunday for the first windy day in what feels like ages. Everyone had said they were going to go and as it was the weekend we were nervous it was going to be busy and involve battling for waves in mediocre conditions...

On arrival there was no one else there at all! We bumped into one friend who was leaving after having sailed for an hour overpowered on her 4m and was going somewhere less windy.

Having already rigged 4.7 I depowered and went out anyway. The wind was up and down for the first hour to the point of being to light to sail, then suddenly it kicked in full power 4m weather!

I sailed for about 2.5 hours with just me and Sarah out the whole time! I had the Gopro on the boom looking back to film and with this being the 7th time (1st time mast broke, 2nd time Sarah had locked the card and ever since the wind has died when I put it on!) I have tried this angle I finally thought I had some good footage. Only to find out when I derigged the camera was still on time lapse!! ARGGHH!

To top it off I got my timing wrong heading back out, thinking I was going to get a good ramp, it closed out on me and I didn't get my foot out in time...so I got dragged backwards over the falls by my ankle...it hurts, but not so bad I can't strap it up and sail!

Still an awesome session and some of the pics are cool - hope you like the angle.

Big waves and wind forecast for the end of our trip so keep posted...

Wow - what a fun wave! Matanzas was great last night, we fully utilised Swifty's rock advice which definitely makes spotting gaps in the sets for launching so much easier! The waves were overhead and a bit in the sets and fast as usual!

I only caught a few waves before a cutback on a really heavy section led to me burying the nose and taking a big wipeout...ripping the gopro from the nose of the board right in front of the rocks!

Unfortunately the impact caused the gopro to error losing the best wave of the session's clip!! Que a few panic set waves on the head while trying to keep the gopro from coming off the retaining pad!

Off for another session now...maybe windy later...
